Located on the border of Scotland and England in the beautiful county of Northumberland, Berwick-upon-Tweed is a town steeped in history and is ideally located for exploring the many attractions, coastal villages and attractions located nearby.
Berwick-upon-Tweed, or simply Berwick as it is most commonly known as, has seen many changes over recent years but still remains a traditional market town and the defence ramparts and barracks can still be seen throughout the town.
When many people think about the town of Berwick it is the River Tweed and the famous bridges that span it that come instantly to mind. If arriving by train, the royal border bridge gives stunning views of the town or countryside whilst car drivers can enjoy the view from the royal tweed bridge.
Berwick’s location just off of the A1 makes the town easy to reach from all parts of the UK and also allows for easy travel whilst on holidays. Edinburgh is about 1 hour North of Berwick and is well worth a day visit, whilst Newcastle/Gateshead is about 1 hour South of Berwick.
The famous Bamburgh Castle is about 15 minutes away from the town with the pretty seaside village of Seahouses another 5 minutes away. The spiritual Lindisfarme and Holy Island is around 20 minutes away but don’t forget to check the tide times before heading across the causeway!
